Clint got to catch up with his dear friend Jane Ridenour at the Black Swamp Arts Festival. This was the first time Clint got to spend some time with Jane since Dave passed away on June 21st.

Thank you, Jenny Morlock, for setting up our conversation where Andrea shared with us ““I was a nine-year member of the Tontogany Hotwires 4-H Club and involved in just about everything I could be involved in. I learned what it took to be both a team member, a leader, and most importantly, a good communicator. I use those skills regularly and have sharpened them over time. I currently work with the Wood County Jr. Fair Poultry Department as their coordinator. I work with teens very regularly and provide them support in whatever capacity they need.

Zach Hayes is the sustainability coordinator for Bowling Green State University and his team was very busy this past weekend servicing the Black Swamp Arts Festival and now, it’s on to the next big event, this weekend’s Electronics Recycling Event.

Clint visited with Brandon Hemminger and David Huffaker from St. Clare Commons recently, where they touched on not only the many services offered at 12469 Five-Point Rd, Perrysburg, but also the educational series they are doing for their residents with topics ranging from dementia to heart health.

What a month it has been for the BGSU Falcon Marching Band!
Now the largest college marching band in the nation, the Falcon Marching Band was surprised with transportation for its 600 members’ instruments and uniforms to match its historic size Thursday.

Garner Trucking, a Findlay, Ohio-based transportation company, donated a fully customized, wrapped semitrailer to the Bowling Green State University Falcon Marching Band. In an effort to surprise the band, the trailer was delivered on Thursday while the band was practicing indoors at the Perry Field House.
Sherri, who is president and CEO of Garner Trucking, donated the semitrailer so the band can more easily transport equipment. The trailer is also being outfitted with shelving for organization.
The Falcon Marching Band will travel to Pasadena, California, later this year, as they prepare to march in the Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2027.

A rapidly changing landscape in college athletics, that was the message from BGSU Athletics Director and Vice President of Athletic Strategy, Derek Van De Merwe, at Tuesday’s Fall Falcon Sports luncheon.
Clint spent a few minutes with Derek after the luncheon to talk about the overwhelming show of support at the luncheon from members of the community and about the Protect College Sports Act of 2026 now under consideration in Washington D.C. that Derek said aims to create a comprehensive federal framework governing collegiate athletics, preempting the patchwork of state NIL laws with a uniform national standard, and providing a limited antitrust exemption for certain college sports regulations.

They also discussed Bowling Green City Council’s announcing the intention to move forward with redistricting and updating of the city’s ward boundaries. Other topics included the mayor’s thoughts on redistributing some income tax funds to support work on city roads and sidewalks and the approval Tuesday night of Martha Woelke returning in the role of “interim” Finance Director.

The Wood County Educational Service Center (WCESC) is expanding its Community-Based Diversion Program to meet rising demand for youth mental health and behavioral support, particularly in prevention and early intervention. Alana Stanbery-Sigg, Director of Prevention Education Programs joined Clint Wednesday morning to explain the addition of a new staff member and additions to diversion staff/expansion of that program.
According to Prevention Director Alana Stanbery-Sigg, the program is growing due to:
Rising demand for youth mental health services
The ESC’s role as the largest of only five Educational Service Centers in Ohio offering formal prevention programming
A school-based model that places prevention specialists directly in districts, reducing barriers like transportation, cost, and stigma.
The expansion is supported by:
A large-scale youth survey of nearly 9,000 students (grades 5–12) to guide targeted interventions in mental health, substance use, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and a 91% success rate in keeping youth out of the justice system, as reported by the juvenile court.

BGSU Falcon Marching Band Director Jon Waters spoke to the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club – Ohio on Thursday to share his story of coming to Bowling Green State University 4 years ago and growing the Marching band to the largest at any college or University in the land!
Clint did a short interview with Jon after his presentation to get some insight into the first big BGSU Football Saturday this weekend. For 22 years our friends at the Thayer Family Dealerships have been hosting a classic car show to support the efforts of the Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Ohio. Saturday, September 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (registration opens at 9 a.m.). The event will be held at Thayer Ford-Nissan, 18039 N. Dixie Highway, Bowling Green.

Joe also reminded us that the annual community grant application cycle officially opened on August 1st for 2027 grants. Local 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and qualified public entities serving the Bowling Green area are invited to submit grant proposals for innovative programs that enhance the health, welfare, and overall vitality of the community.
The application deadline is October 9, 2026. Non-profit organizations operating within or serving the 43402 and 43403 zip codes are eligible. Complete guidelines, eligibility criteria, and application forms are available online on the Foundation’s website, www.bowlinggreenCF.org.
