Ken Frisch, WC District Public Library Board of Trustees

At this week's meeting of the building committee for the Wood County District Public Library, the first steps toward constructing a new garage or "Carriage House" in the empty lot to the north of the Carter House on Church Street was discussed.
The new structure would provide room to store the library’s maintenance equipment, expanded workshop area, and park its two vans plus a proposed 2nd floor could potentially double the proposed 2880 square feet of space and would have an enforced concrete floor to support the weight of books that would be stored there.
Library Director Michael Penrod assembled the committee to get feedback on the project so he can prepare a request for proposal to architects.

Madi Lee, Wood County Fair Queen

Clint had royalty in the house this week when 2024 Wood County Fair Queen Madelayne Lee stopped by! Madi was on campus at Bowling Green State University to meet with Karl Smith from BG Falcon Media and is enrolled to start her college career at BGSU this fall and hopes to work in sports broadcasting!

Bill Hoefflin, Wood County Park District

A presentation by Wood County Park District Naturalist Bill Hoefflin on "The Science of Fall Color" was shared with the Park Board at Tuesday's meeting at William Henry Harrison Park.

Terry Burton, Wood County Board of Elections

It's the 1st day for voters to have their voices heard today, October 8th. Clint talked this morning with Terry Burton, co-director of the Wood County Board of Elections, about any changes to the procedure for what is expected to be a heavy turnout of voters making decisions on a very full ballot.

City of Bowling Green, Ohio Municipal Court Judge Mark Reddin swore in Jordan Musgrave as the new Bowling Green City Council member representing the First Ward at Monday's Council meeting.

He is filling the seat most recently held by Democrat Damon Sherry who resigned the seat on Sept. 6 after taking a position with the Wood County Board of Elections.

Now in his 16th season coaching BGSU Men's Soccer, Eric Nichols has his team nationally ranked with a sparkling 8-1-1 record and undefeated in the Missouri Valley Conference.

John sent out an alert this past week that said in part... "WOW... what a past couple of months. Last year’s Step 3 letter went out 48 days ago on August 14. But due to the drought and the high stress the turf was under, fertilizing during that time would cause more damage than good. But give Mother Nature a shot and she will come thru; I am amazed how after just a couple of rains everything seems to be bouncing back." So NOW WHAT???

Dean Sara Bushong, BGSU Libraries

Sara A. Bushong, Dean of Bowling Green State University Libraries, has spearheaded a fundraising campaign to have the historic mural on the outside of the Jerome Library building refurbished. The mural has been a signature piece of artwork on campus since the Jerome Library was first completed in 1967.

This restoration project is an opportunity for our alumni and friends to unite in preserving this legacy, ensuring that it continues to inspire and resonate with future generations.”
Dean Bushong told Clint that if the fundraising effort is successful, they hope to coordinate the work on the mural efforts recently approved by the Bowling Green State University trustees to restore the exterior envelope of Jerome Library. They allocated $3,684,450 for this project, which includes funding for replacing the roof.

Pete Prichard, Wood County Job & Family Services

Pete Prichard called the show this morning to give Clint details about the Peer Specialist Apprenticeship Program a collaboration between the Wood County Department of Job and Family Services, OhioMeansJobs Wood County, Owens Community College, Penta Career Center and others.

Ben Robison & Lindsay Ruivivar, Wood County Health Department

The Wood County Health Department took the next step in moving forward with the renovation and expansion of the main building on Gypsy Lane Rd. at a special meeting Monday night. Listen here to details on this and two other resolutions approved by the Board at the meeting.
The Board agreed to a motion to accept the recommendation by SSOE of the submitted bids for renovation of Wood County Health Department and to support award of the contract, in the amount of $1,450,000, to Midwest Contracting, Inc. for construction services. In personnel, the Board also agreed to appoint Brittney Jordan to the new Clinical Quality Manager position.

Sufficient Grace Ministries for Women, a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-denominational organization, was founded by Kelly Gerken in Deshler Ohio in 2004, with the purpose of reaching out to women and families to offer comfort, encouragement and hope during these incredibly difficult times.

Dr. Rodney Rogers, Amy Shore, & Mike Kuhlin, BGSU

At today's State of the University address Dr. Rodney K. Rogers - BGSU President hinted at 2 more "significant" gifts to the University he'll be reporting on this fall to support student learning opportunities.
If you missed this morning's newscasts, listen here to hear comments from Dr. Rogers, BGSU Board of Trustees Vice President Amy Shore, and Mike Kuhlin, who helped bring the Career Design and Connections Hub to reality.
All this on the heels of the announcement last year that the Thompson Foundation, created by Bob and Ellen Thompson in 2014, will extend its partnership with BGSU through their intent to give a total of $121 million to the Thompson Working Families Scholarship's tenure, a donation that comes with the possibility of an additional $30 million, extending the scholarship past 2035. President Rogers said today that the 121 million dollars in Thompson scholarships, with university matches, create a quarter of billion dollars of support. It was also reported that 2.7 million dollars was given in BGSU One Day last year.
Not resting on past successes, President Rogers said "It's easier to lose Momentum than to create it".

Now Bob said its full speed ahead in hopes of having our 8-court Pickleball facility open by summer of '25. We also congratulated Bob on his recent Gold Medal at the Ohio Sr. Games in Pickleball!

Joe Steinmetz, BG Pedal Company

Listen here to this morning's visit with Joe Steinmetz, owner of BG Pedal Company, an entertainment service that features a 14-seat party bike. The bike consists of 10 pedaling seats and two back bench seats that can seat 4 more people. BG Pedal Company supplies the driver so all you have to worry about is pedaling and having fun!
Joe told us that in addition to birthday/anniversary parties, beer and wine tastings, there will soon be specialty tours in which they partner with local businesses to create a unique experience while on the bike. There are also many family-friendly options as well, such as town history tours and ice cream/park crawls. Just ask them about options for crafting a tour. Joe said that they look forward to going for a ride with you!

Brian O'Connell, City of Bowling Green Utilities

Clint talked on Friday's local news with Brian O'Connell, City of Bowling Green, Ohio Director of Public Infrastructure and Utilities, about the power outage that left a large portion of the city without power for around an hour Wednesday afternoon. Listen to our visit here! Brian emphasized "There was no safety issue or damage, and we don’t expect any more issues."

Jeff Roberts & Meghan Missler, Student Veterans of America

Honoring the selfless service and sacrifice of missing and captured military members, Bowling Green State University student veterans are holding a prisoner of war/missing in action remembrance display at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union through Friday, National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Now Dr. Kate Dellenbusch, a teaching professor at Bowling Green State University and director of the BGSU Planetarium, has released the Fall 2024 public show schedule and a new speaker series titled "Expanding Boundaries".

Staff Lt. Scott Wyckhouse, OSHP, & Sandy Weichman, Safe Communities of Wood County

If you've ever thought that wearing a seat belt in uncomfortable, unnecessary, or just not important, listen to this story shared by John and Judith Maxey at today's "Safety Belts Save Lives" event at the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The Maxey's shared the story of how they were wearing their seatbelts when involved in a terrible accident on December 12th, 2023, in Wood County.

Cindy Hildebrand

We met with several wonderful folks at this year's Middleton Township Community Safety Day, one in particular had a remarkable story of courage moving forward after a terrible tragedy hit her family.
Listen here to the story of Cindy Hildebrand whose daughter, Julie, was killed in the deadly 47-car pileup on the Ohio Turnpike on Dec. 23, 2022. In the chaos of the accident, first responders couldn’t find identification for her or her two young children. It took nine hours for officials to inform the family that Julie had been killed and which hospital was treating her son and daughter.
Just a few months after the tragic accident, the Julie Roth Memorial Foundation was formed, and the Roth ID Tag Emergency Identification System was created to aid first responders identify victims and survivors in the aftermath of an accident.

Dave is hosting a talk the next three Wednesdays at the Wood County Committee On Aging focusing on the long and unusual history of Baseball. Sept. 25th it's "The Catcher was a Spy-the strange and mysterious life of Moe Berg," then on Oct. 2nd Dave will present "Baseball Stars as Movie Stars".

Kim Roessner & Joann Amos, Women's Club of BG

The Women's Club of Bowling Green, Ohio has several important events coming up in the next few weeks and Kim Roessner, the President, and Joann Amos stopped by to give us the details on the latest initiatives from this 104-year-old organization.

Jon Waters, BGSU Marching Band

The BGSU Falcon Marching Band, more than doubling in size over the past two years, is now the second largest in the nation and the largest in university history with 425 members! The Band along with the spirit teams from Bowling Green State University, entertained a large crowd this afternoon at the Rally BG on Main 2024 event.

Theresa Pollick, Northwestern Water & Sewer District

Theresa Pollick from the Northwestern Water & Sewer District told Clint on Friday's show that the award of the SR 582 Dunbridge Sewer and Water project was tabled Thursday to allow more time to ensure the schedule and budgets are correct. Bids were under the engineering estimate.

Roger Mazzarella, BGSU Rugby

BGSU Men's Rugby has a couple of huge games this weekend, hosting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Roger Mazzarella Field. With a 1st game at 1:00, Roger told us the 2nd game (B-side) should start around 2:30.
