Coming off the best finish in 25 years, BGSU Track & Field, Cross County Coach Lou Snelling visited the studio this morning.
The Bowling Green Falcons concluded competition at the 2023 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 13th, totaling 91 team points to finish fourth. This was the best point total since 1999 and best team finish since 1998

Mark Wasylyshyn, Wood County Sheriff

Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn has announced that the Wood County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting increased patrol over the prom season thanks to grant funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. This blitz will run through May 31.
Clint talked with Sheriff Wasylyshyn this morning about this prom season initiative.
Deputies will pay particular attention for violations, such as driving under the influence, failure to yield, and speeding — all of which are leading factors in fatal crashes. There will be zero tolerance for driving under the influence and seat belt violations.

Kyle Culp, Wood County Fair

Listen to Clint's visit with Kyle Culp last night after he updated the Sr. Fair Board on a recent discussion with representatives of Not In Our Town Bowling Green. Kyle told Clint there had been some concerns raised over controversial items sold at past fairs like the Confederate Flag and what the board is doing to address those concerns.
Culp also talked about an initiative to honor the many years of service of Bill Davies who passed away recently.
Billy Davies was a lifelong farmer and truck driver, but those were not his only ‘jobs.’ He was also an auctioneer, working many years with Keith Bradley Real Estate and Auction. Being very involved in the community, he is a past Portage Township Trustee, a past President of the Wood County Beef Producers, past Director of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, served on the NW Water-Sewer District board, and was very active @ Cloverdale United Methodist Church.
Billy was a proud Elmwood FFA Alumni, and the Wood County Fair was always one of his favorite weeks of the year. He volunteered for the Wood Co. Jr. Fair Livestock auction and was involved in many other functions at the fair, including one of his favorites…the Pie Auction. He also was honored to have been named Grand Marshall for the 2019 Jr Fair Parade with his wife, Betty.

What's new at the Wood County Regional Airport? Would you believe a possible runway expansion project in the next couple of years, the return this summer of the Wood County Air Fair for the 1st time in years and lots more. Listen to Clint's interview of airport manager Mark Black after he stopped by the Wood County Commissioners meeting to get their annual $30,000 check to go toward airport expenses. The President/CEO of the Wood County Hospital, Stan Korducki, announced on Monday's show that the 2 East Wing of the Hospital would be reopening next week after a lengthy closure due to challenges from the Covid Pandemic and staffing issues.

Kelsey Nevius, Wood County District Public Library, and Tony Zmarzly, Bowling Green Fire Department

Kelsey Nevius from the Wood County District Public Library and Bowling Green Fire Division Deputy Chief Tony Zmarzly are also members of the Leadership BG Class of 2023. On this morning's show they invited the public to a Touch-A-Truck fundraiser supporting The Bowling Green Firefighters Community Benefit Fund on May 20th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Bowling Green Community Center.
This free family event allows children of all ages a hands-on opportunity to explore various vehicles and meet the people who build, protect, and serve our community. Bowling Green’s own fire trucks, ambulance, police cruiser, trash truck, and utility vehicles will be on display as well as the Wood County Sheriff MRAP truck and a semi-truck provided by Whiteford Kenworth.
Bowling Green Fire Division firefighters recently established this nonprofit to help fill fire safety gaps in the community by providing Knox Home Boxes, 10-year smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, and scholarships to high school students pursuing a career in fire or EMS.

Sarah Nidiffer and Suzanne Eames, Wood County Educational Service Center

Sarah Nidiffer, Family and Community Partnership Liaison at the Wood County Educational Service Center and Suzanne Eames stopped by the studio this morning to tell Clint about the Free Legal Clinic Bus that coming to the WCESC this Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Listen as Clint learned about this unique opportunity to get legal aid from volunteer attorneys on civil legal issues, including family law issues related to adoption and kinship care.

Ginny Stewart, Bowling Green City Schools Board Member

Bowling Green City Schools Board member Ginny Stewart called the show this morning to encourage members of the community to meet each of the three finalists for the position of Superintendent on Wednesday, April 26th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Veterans Memorial Building in City Park.
Community members are urged, if possible, to stay for all three finalists in order to provide feedback to the board on all three candidates.
Ms. Stewart said that the search has progressed through several stages, including the board’s building an ideal candidate profile, recruitment and marketing, community and staff focus groups, board screening, interviews and reference checking.
The Bowling Green Board of Education member added that they appreciate your continued support of our students, teachers, and staff. The board hopes to make a decision and appointment in early May.

Jerry Greiner and Craig LaHote, Northwestern Water and Sewer District

The Northwestern Water and Sewer District (The District) has been awarded the Wood County Economic Development Commission’s (WCEDC) Corporate Citizen of the Year Award for 2022. This award is given every year to a business or organization that has made valuable contributions to the community.
President of the NWWSD Jerry Greiner and Wood County Commissioner Craig LaHote join me live this morning to talk about this prestigious award and the mission of the District moving forward.
According to Wade Gottschalk, Executive Director of the Wood County Economic Development Commission, “The award recognizes the achievements of The District and its vital role in economic development in Wood County. Their cooperation in building solid, reliable infrastructure in Wood County and our region has led to the growth of so many businesses and industries.”
“Not many realize the impact of our underground network,” said Jerry Greiner, District President. “Our whole team is proud to have laid the foundation for the area’s economic success and tomorrow’s prosperity.”

Annette Wells and Marissa Muniz Kolhoff, Wood County Museum

Clint got an update on the ongoing repairs at the Wood County Museum recently from Director Annette Wells. Listen as Marissa Muniz Kolhoff also joined the conversation to tell about programming that is still taking place both inside the Museum and on the beautiful grounds.

Kylie Schmehl and Nicholas Yates, Black Swamp Players

Kylie Schmehl and Nicholas Yates share the lead role of Christopher in the latest production from the Black Swamp Players, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, based on the novel by Mark Haddon. The play won the 2015 Tony for Best Play.
Listen to Clint's visit in studio with Kylie and Christopher before the show opened last weekend. Dr. Heath Diehl, who plays Christopher's father, also called in to the show.
Set in Swindon and London, the story concerns 15-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone, a mathematical genius with an unspecified autism spectrum disorder, although his condition is never explicitly stated in the play. The titular curious incident is the mystery surrounding the death of Wellington, his neighbor Mrs. Shears’ poodle, after Christopher finds the dog speared with a garden fork.

Bowling Green Middle School Play

We had a wonderful time visiting with Director Alice Walters (8th grader, stage manager Marin Howard (8th grade) and cast members Aidan Thomas (8th gr.), Adelyn Davis (6th gr.), Sophia Milks (6th gr.) and Claire Nelson (6th gr.) this morning. All are part of a very entertaining production, "Bedtime stories as Told by Our Dad Who Messed Them All Up" Listen for details on how you can watch these young people in action at the PAC center Friday and Saturday night and you'll also get to hear a portion of the show acted out by our guests!

John Dippery, Raffle Winner

The State of Ohio is looking at how persons with disabilities can be more independent and this initiative called "Technology First" is a partnership with the Department of Developmental Disabilities and will be at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts from 8:30-4:30. Kyle Clark from the Wood County Educational Service Center stopped by to explain a recent collaboration with the Wood County Sheriff's Office titled "In Plain Sight". The program helps parents and guardians identify signs that your youngsters may be vaping or involved in other high risk behavior. Kyle also gave Clint an update on over $20,000 in Drug-free Communities Grant Funding plus a junior teen institute retreat recap!

Entrepreneurship Week (E-Week) at BGSU is the most significant annual event for the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business. Each April, the college hosts entrepreneurial leaders from around the world to share their experience and expertise through presentations and other events including The Hatch, the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Hall of Fame and the Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship. Several E-Week events are open to the general public.

Stan Korducki, Wood County Hospital

We learned at last week's Bowling Green Economic Development luncheon of a new breed pharmaceutical and medical supply distributor that is locating in Bowling Green. Listen to Clint's weekly talk with Stan Korducki, President of the Wood County Hospital, who shared the role that Premier Mid-America will have in lowering costs and increasing reimbursement by working directly with hospitals, pharmacies and medical groups and why the WCH was a joint sponsor in this project.
Mr. Korducki and Clint also talked about the recently completed expansion of the Rehab Center's "Ready Program" for children between the ages of 3-5 that facilitate's learning and readiness skills for successful transition into a kindergarten classroom.

Laura Schutze, League of Women Voters

Laura Schutze form the League of Women Voters Bowling Green called the show this morning to talk about a new "Crisis Stabalization Unit" that has opened on W. Poe Rd. in Bowling Green.
Listen as Laura talks about how this initiative started with a need of law-enforcement that was articulated to the LWV study committee, and eventually found to be a need in common with other agencies in our community. One of our committee members in the early days of planning, Erin Hachtel, because of her job, was aware of the potential plans which led us to talking with Jen Emahiser, director of intensive services at UNISON Behavioral Health.

Trevor Jessee and Betty Kahlenberg, Bowling Green Rotary Club

Trevor Jessee, Betty Kahlenberg, and "Lucy" shared their excitement Friday morning about the upcoming Rotary Club of Bowling Green, OH "Piano Wars" fundraiser. Listen to the audio from their visit with Clint.
It's back! Piano Wars, Rotary Club of Bowling Green's annual fundraising event, returns April 21 with all of the proceeds donated to local and global causes. The fun-filled evening at the city park's Veteran's Memorial Building begins at 6 p.m. with great food, drinks, and dueling pianos as entertainment throughout the evening.
"We've hosted this fun event for 11 years, and the audience continues to grow as the word spreads that this is a good time and supports worthy causes," says Trevor Jessee, president of the BG Rotary Club. " Last year, for example, the event raised money to help build the new inclusive playground in Carter Park. This year, in
addition to the monthly contributions Rotary makes to the Brown Bag Food Project, and other food pantry’s, we understand the need for food assistance is greater than ever, and we want to do more. Piano Wars will make that possible."
The evening is casual, both in dress and the program. There will be many unique silent auction items for guests to bid on throughout the evening, as well as some special items auctioned off by WTOL's Ryan Wichman. The dual pianos, performed by the nationally known tour company out of Detroit, will provide music from a variety of styles and eras, many of which the audience will know the words to and can sing along. The dinner is being catered by Beckett's restaurant, a local favorite. The menu's theme is Italian and the buffet includes Italian sausage, marinated chicken, vegetarian lasagna, rotini pasta, marsala sauce, meat sauce, mixed vegetables medley, Caesar salad, bread sticks and dessert. Drinks will be served throughout the evening.

Brandi Laux, Wood County Job and Family Services

With April being Child Abuse Awareness Month, the staff of Wood County Children Services will hold their annual Pinwheel for Prevention events on Wednesday, April 12.
Listen to this morning's visit with Brandi Laux from the Wood County Department of Job and Family Services who told us the day will begin at 9 a.m. with the planting of 969 pinwheels, an increase of over 100 cases from 2022, in the front lawn at First United Methodist Church, 1528 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green. The 969 pinwheels represent the number of child abuse, neglect and dependency investigations completed and families assisted in 2022.
Following the pinwheel planting, a luncheon and silent auction will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Wood County Courthouse, Alvin L. Perkins Atrium, One Courthouse Square, Bowling Green. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, along with silent auction basket raffles.
