Ben Robison, Wood County Health Department

Wood County Health Department Commissioner Ben Robison covered several topics during his call in this week. Listen here as Ben updated us on the 2nd case of a person being infected, this one in Michigan. Another topic we touched on was the Boards decision to hire the next CEO of the Wood County Community Health Center.
After a nationwide search that drew more than 50 applicants, Wood County Health Department is pleased to announce that the Health Center Board selected Lindsey Ruivivar to serve as the next CEO of the Wood County Community Health Center. Her first day will be July 1.

Kristin Otley, BG Parks & Recreation

Listen here as the Director of the Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Department, Kristin Otley, called this morning to remind us that the pool is opening!
The Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Department will open the City Pool & Waterpark on Saturday, May 25th and remain open for the Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, Sunday, Monday).
Please note the Pool will be closed on Tuesday (5/28), Wednesday (5/29), and Thursday (5/30) for staff training, reopening on Friday, May 31st.
The City Pool will be open daily from Noon - 8:45 PM. Season Passes are available for purchase at the Bowling Green Community Center.

Pastor Jeff Schooley, First Presbyterian Church

Pastor Jeff Schooley from First Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green visited with Clint this morning to share the story of his recent trip to the Mexican Border with a group of Americans traveling with the Practice Mercy Foundation.

Mayor Mark Wolford, Portage, Ohio

Bowling Green City Schools Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting in the Village of Portage on Tuesday in an effort to engage more with folks in the outer parts of the district.
I asked Portage Mayor Mark Wolford to stop by the studio this morning to share his thoughts on the meeting and the discussion by the board about a possible operating levy being placed on the ballot in November.

As one of the producers, Steve Hanson will be in the theater prior to showing the film to meet/greet patrons and answers questions, etc. The public are invited, admission is $5.

Lieutenant Ryan Tackett, Lieutenant with the Wood County Police Division detailed a situation in which Bowling Green Police arrested a 15-year-old boy for felonious assault on Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed another teenager in the arm.

Chris Smalley & Jamie Sands, Wood County Park District

The Wood County Park District is celebrating their 90th Anniversary in June and the celebrating started a little early at yesterday's Board of Park Commissioners meeting!
Listen here as Park Director Chris Smalley talked about the history of the parks and Jamie Sands gave details on how you can pick up a limited-edition WC Parks shirt online now through the end of the month.
Chris also said the purchase of 30.31 acres of land by the park district for $1.2 million adjacent to the J.C. Reuthinger Memorial Preserve has been finalized as well as the donation of 3.11 acres that is adjacent to the land being purchased.

Jamie Weidner, Wood County Airport Board

The Wood County Regional Airport is undergoing a 6.2-million-dollar runway expansion project.
Listen here to some details from Airport Board President Jamie Weidner who talked with us after Tuesday's visit to the Wood County Commissioners. Weidner asked the Commissioners for a line of credit to cover the local match or 5% of the total cost of the project. Although the Board has already raised the matching dollars, the line of credit would help to move the project forward this year.
The proposed work involves shifting Runway 18/36 by moving the south end of Runway 36 a total of 190 feet north and extending the north end of Runway 18 by the same distance. Additionally, the runway will be extended by 572 feet to the north and widened from 50 feet to 60 feet.
Purpose: This expansion aims to enhance the airport’s infrastructure, accommodate larger aircraft, and improve overall safety.
Economic Impact: The expansion will increase the area for plane tie-downs from two acres to about 4.5 acres, with the number of sites rising from 12 to 33. It will also allow improvements to drainage, providing access to an area behind the terminal for two additional larger hangars. Construction may begin sometime this year, according to Weidner, with completion in 2025.

Stan Korducki, Wood County Hospital

This is an annual celebration that takes place during the week of Florence Nightingale’s birthday, which falls on May 12. This year, it's being observed from May 12th to 18th. The holiday was established by the American Hospital Association (AHA) to shine a spotlight on our many hospitals, health systems, and health care workers who strive to save lives daily. It’s an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of hospitals and health care professionals to their communities.
The Wood County Hospital is now in its 73rd year of service here in Northwest Ohio, and Mr. Korducki talked about the past, present, and future of the hospital, plus the amazing staff at the WCH.

Coach Kyle Hallock, BGSU Baseball

They are the Champions of the Mid-American Conference, your BGSU Falcon Baseball team clinched the regular season title with their 21st MAC win on Sunday over Eastern Michigan University.

Catherine Smith, BGSU Flight Center

Representing the nationally ranked aviation program at Bowling Green State University, the Falcon Flight Team will showcase their ground and air skills at the upcoming national competition of the country’s top collegiate pilots.
The BGSU Falcon Flight Team qualified for the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) competition following the regional competition in the fall. This is the team's first appearance at the national level since 1997.
BGSU will compete in 10 ground and air events alongside 31 teams from across the U.S. from May 13-18 in Janesville, Wisconsin. The Falcon Flight Team is a student organization comprised of about 25 students. Many are pursuing the flight technology and operations specialization in the aviation studies degree program in the BGSU School of Aviation.

This is a FREE community event that the public will be able to get an up-close look at/in: service vehicles, fire trucks, police cruisers, 1st responder vehicles, tractors, and construction equipment. There will also be a safety fair vendor tent, activities and bounce houses for kids, a car cruise-in (all cars welcome), plus so much more!
We will also have a quiet room located inside the museum.

Rose Drain & Gina O'Hare, BG Save Our Neighborhoods Group

Listen here as Rose Drain, President of the Bowling Green Save Our Neighborhoods Group, and Gina O'Hare, one the volunteer leaders, joined Clint this morning to recap the 1st two "Rock the Block" events held here in City of Bowling Green, Ohio.
Thanks to the generous support of sponsors and the hundreds of hours provided by 100 volunteers, several homeowners in the city were given a helping hand with a variety of projects ranging from yard work, painting, light carpentry and much more.

David Jackson, BGSU Faculty Association

David Jackson, President of the Bowling Green State University Faculty Association, signed a new 3-year contract with Bowling Green State University after that contract was approved by the University Trustees at last week's meeting. This was the 5th contract since the faculty unionized in 2010 and calls for a 9.24 percent increase over three years starting July 1 and continuing until June 30, 2027.
Listen here to Clint's visit with Dr. Jackson after the trustees meeting as they discussed this latest contract and the University's recognizing quality teaching, research/creative activities, and service with the board honored a total of 49 BGSU faculty members with promotion and tenure status.
Trustees voted to promote or appoint 15 faculty members to full professor, 14 to associate professor, eight to teaching professor and 11 to associate teaching professor. One faculty member was granted tenure in addition to those who were promoted or appointed to professor and associate professor, respectively.
Additionally, the board of trustees granted emeritus status to 13 faculty members.

Sheri Stoll, BGSU VP of Finance & Administration

After the most recent Bowling Green State University Board of Trustees meeting, Clint talked with Sheri Stoll, C.P.A. Vice President for Finance & Administration, about the just approved 2024 Campus Master plan. Listen here to some of the details of the plan, which will serve as a long-term guide for improving buildings and related infrastructure on the Bowling Green campus for at least the next 15 years.
As you'll hear, BGSU Campus Master Plan 2024 is being implemented with a particular focus on STEM facilities and infrastructure, highlighting the University's commitment to addressing workforce demands in the critical science, technology, engineering and mathematics career fields. The plan will also feature a primary emphasis on residence halls, dining facilities and other learning community spaces, including the Jerome Library for enhanced student learning and activities.

Chamber Annual Meeting Dinner Awards Recipients

Listen here to Clint's quick interviews with all the winners at Saturday night's Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting Dinner and Awards Banquet. A part of the evening’s program was the announcement of the winners of the Athena, Zeus, Male and Female Citizens of the Year, Outstanding Customer Service, Small Business of the Year, “I Love BG” and the Greg Kegler Volunteerism Awards. All award recipients are considered by nomination and then reviewed by past winners or project teams.
The Athena Award, which celebrates the potential of all women to be valued members and leaders of the community and recognizes those who support them, was awarded to Stacie Anderson of Anderson Farm Products and the Legacy Farmers’ Cooperative. Anderson is a mother of three, a full-time employee, a volunteer, and an agricultural advocate.

The Zeus Award, which honors a male individual who supports a culture that encourages women to achieve their full leadership potential, was awarded to Mark Remeis of A.A. Green Realty. At work, he is the leader of a mostly female office staff, and according to his nominator, “is continually coaching and helping all of us ladies in the office to succeed” and pays for further education to help them cultivate their professional skillset.

The Outstanding Female Citizen of the Year Award, which recognizes active leadership roles for the betterment of the community through involvement in business, civic, social, and service organizations, was awarded to Linda Lander. Lander has tirelessly served the Bowling Green community by advocating for education and the wellbeing of elderly citizens since she moved here in 1983. She also works extensively with the Wood County Humane Society, Wood County District Public Library, Not In our Town, and La Conexion.

The Outstanding Male Citizen of the Year Award, which recognizes active leadership roles for the betterment of the Bowling Green community, was awarded to Dr. Heath Diehl. Dr. Diehl is not only an award-winning educator and scholar, but a renowned volunteer with multiple community organizations. In addition to his day-job as a professor, he pours time, heart, and soul into various non-profit organizations, mainly the Wood County Humane Society and Black Swamp Players, which his leadership totally revitalized.

The Outstanding Customer Service Award, which honors businesses that demonstrate exceptional service and are selected through community nominations, was presented to Dairy Queen Bowling Green owner Manny Patel. Following a management change at the Bowling Green location, the staff of Dairy Queen carefully cleaned and renovated the premises, allowing customers to enjoy their food with family and friends in a fun, safe environment. They also doubled down on providing a warm, friendly atmosphere that caught the attention of at least one nominator, who writes “over the past year, we have been ‘wowed’ with fantastic customer service by the owner and crew of Dairy Queen… I must say, they set a high standard that others should want to emulate.”

The Small Business of the Year Award, which recognizes small businesses in the community that demonstrate achievement in management and workplace excellence, product innovation and community and social responsibility, was awarded to Elite Collegiate Apparel owner Kent Kokomoor. The store, which opened its doors in 2017, has since doubled its inventory level and become a mainstay of the Bowling Green community.

The I Love BG Award, which celebrates an individual or organization for their efforts in increasing the visibility and promotion of the city and improving the quality of life for Bowling Green residents, was awarded to Elaine Goodwin. Goodwin moved to Bowling Green in 1961 and fell in love with the small-town charm. She raised her 11 children here and has poured hours of her time into volunteering at the Wood County Hospital, St. Thomas More, Bridge Hospice, and Sunshine Children’s Home.

The Greg Kegler Volunteerism Award, which honors the accomplishments of a very special Chamber Investor who selflessly helps the Bowling Green community, was awarded to Mark Cassin of State Bank. Cassin has spent the last 9 years serving the Bowling Green area community in a variety of roles—he has been a member of the BG Kiwanis Club, partner with the Cocoon, and an active member of the BG Chamber of Commerce. He spearheads the BG State Bank G.I.V.E.S. initiative, which raised over $10,270 in 2023 alone to disburse among local nonprofits.

Coach Kyle Hallock, BGSU Baseball

After starting their Mid-American Conference schedule with a record 17 straight wins, the Bowling Green State University baseball team concluded this past weekend series against the Western Michigan Broncos on Sunday with WMU capturing an 11-0 final in seven innings to best Bowling Green. The loss was the Falcons second straight series loss after dropping 2 of 3 games at Kent State last weekend. Sunday's loss drops first place BGSU to 26-17 on the season while being 19-5 in the MAC. The Falcons will play their next five games on the road starting with Tuesday's game at Michigan State Baseball, before wrapping up the regular season at home against the rival Toledo Rockets, beginning on May 16.

Kristie Peek, Wood Lane Residential Services

Wood Lane Residential Services, otherwise known as WLRS, is a nonprofit organization in which they serve adult individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities throughout Wood County. According to today's guest, Kristie Peek, the staff at WLRS is proud of being part of the community for over 44 years and offering services such as Residential Housing, Transportation, Adult Day Programming and Employment services. They rely on different fundraising events in order to continue to provide the best services possible.

2. 3rd Annual Ryan Sanner Memorial Golf Tournament, Saturday, June 15th
Ryan Sanner was diagnosed with Duchenne (Doo-Shen) Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 4. He became wheelchair dependent as a 3rd grader and although he struggled with his mobility and fine motor skills, he attended BGSU where he graduated with a degree in Sport Management. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburg Steelers fan and loved to collect his NFL Quarterback Bobbleheads! Unfortunately, Ryan passed away in 2021 at the age of 32, however his parents Randy and Carol Sanner continue to honor his memory and legacy with the Annual Ryan Sanner Memorial Golf Tournament. This year the Sanners have named WLRS as the beneficiary of the proceeds. We are honored that they have selected us to be a part of this great day. It is Saturday, June 15th. Tee times are at 1pm and 4pm (Encourage the 4pm slot) at the BG Country Club. Food will be served, and it is $300 for a team of 4. There are also $100 Hole Sponsorships and $150 Yard Sponsorships available as well. Stan Korducki, Wood County Hospital

Listen here as Clint started his visit this morning with Stan Korducki, President of the Wood County Hospital, talking about the 2024 "I Love BG" award winner, Elaine Goodwin, who has been volunteering in our community for over 60 years and has continued to volunteer at the hospital at the age of 92!
Stan also mentioned it's National Nurses Week and he said a special thank you to Lori Tuck, Director of Nursing and Associate VP of Nursing, at the Hospital who just retired after 42 years of service!

George Strata, Beckett's Burger Bar & SamB's

On April 25, WCH hosted a special luncheon at Stone Ridge Golf Club to honor Wood County Hospital's volunteers during National Volunteer Week. This year's theme was "Thank you for Bee-ing a Volunteer at Wood County Hospital," celebrating their invaluable contributions.

Ivan Kovacevic, BG Parks and Recreation

Ivan Kovacevic has served as the Recreation Coordinator for the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department since July of 2015 and he joined Clint live Monday morning at 8:15 to talk about the 2024 Summer Youth Program Guide. This year's guide is filled with exciting opportunities, including camps, sports, Safety Town, swim lessons, and theater programs.
The 2024 Summer Youth Program Guide is now available and can be picked up at the Bowling Green Community Center starting TODAY. Resident registration begins April 29, 2024, and non-resident registration opens on May 13, 2024.
The City of Bowling Green Bicycle Safety Commission is also sponsoring its annual Bicycle Spokesperson of the Year award. Any Bowling Green citizen who exemplifies the spirit of bicycling through involvement in biking, bike safety, or bike-related activities can be nominated.

Coach Kyle Hallock, BGSU Baseball

Despite dropping their first series this season after the Kent State Golden Flashes picked up a 12-2 win on Sunday in seven innings, with results from around the conference, the Falcons have now clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2015!
Clit will recap the Kent State series Monday morning at 8:30 with head coach Kyle Hallock, then look ahead to Bowling Green now returning home for five straight contests, consisting of two midweek non-conference games before hosting Western Michigan next weekend.

The Bowling Green State University Baseball team saw their historic start to the season come to a close, falling to the Ohio Bobcats 4-2 in the series finale on Sunday. BGSU's streaks of starting MAC play 17-0 and the home schedule 10-0 both marked program records. The Falcons start in MAC play also set the conference record and concluded as the second-best MAC start in BGSU Athletics history.

Danny Schmitz, former BGSU Baseball Head Coach

Schmitz led the Falcons Baseball program from 1991-2020 claiming four Mid-American Conference regular season titles, seven division titles, and three Mid-American Conference baseball tournament championships. Schmitz has seen 29 players sign professional contracts, while his teams amassed over 600 wins.

See the inaugural show that introduced the BGSU Planetarium to the campus and community. To indicate that all Planetarium systems were a go, a special showing of "All Systems Go!" was presented on April 27, 1984. Regular showings continued in May and throughout the Fall 1984 semester. "All Systems Go!" tells the story of NASA from its inception to the development of the Space Shuttle, with an emphasis on the manned Apollo missions to the Moon from 1969 through 1972. This classic show has been digitized so that we can continue to enjoy it today.

The Board and the members of BGCC have been working very hard the past few months to upgrade and improve the facilities and return the club to those days of glory. Di said "that’s our wish, and our goal. It’s a big wish. But we’re dedicated to making it happen. And this historic year, is the perfect start."
The celebration starts tomorrow at 4:30-7:30 with hors d'oeuvres, drinks and a time to reconnect with old friends and make some new ones. There will be a program at 6:00pm when The Mayor will present a proclamation and the new Club President and Board will be introduced. Staff will also be recognized.

Flag City Honor Flight is a hub of the National Honor Flight Network and services Veterans in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Each hub independently plans, raises funds, and transports American Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit their war memorials.
Flag City Honor Flight is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit organization founded in 2010. The organization relies on volunteers to plan, develop, orchestrate, and implement the entire mission. Additionally, community members volunteer to be Guardians and accompany Veterans to the memorials in Washington, D.C. on Flight Day, thus ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for the Veterans.

BGSU Hockey welcomed Dennis Williams as the ninth head coach in Falcon ice hockey history on Thursday.

Williams comes to BGSU after spending seven years as the head coach of the Everett Silvertips of the WHL (Western Hockey League), including the last three as general manager. Under Williams, Everett earned four U.S. Division titles, three conference regular season titles and one Western Conference championship. Williams and the Silvertips commence the first round of the WHL Playoffs on Friday against Vancouver.
Williams’ contract is for six years with a base salary of $325,000.
Some of the incentives in the contract include $7,500 if the team wins the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season title, $10,000 if the team wins the CCHA tournament, $5,000 if the team makes an NCAA tournament appearance through PairWise rankings, and $25,000 if the team wins the NCAA championship.

Student Pilots & Pres. Rodney Rogers, BGSU

Large presence of emergency vehicles at the Wood County Regional Airport tonight responding to the call of a student pilot with a stuck throttle. After attempts by instructors to walk the pilot through trying to "unstick" the throttle she did make a successful landing after cutting the power.

The Ohio State University Extension - Wood County 4-H is already hard at work on this year's summer camp and we had the opportunity to talk with 2 of last years counselors on this morning's show.

Mike Armstrong is President of A-Gas Americas, headquartered at 1100 Haskins Rd. in Bowling Green, Ohio and a proud veteran. Mike stopped by the studio this morning to introduce us to local West Point Cadet, Brendan DeGryse, who is now in his 2nd year at the Academy. Gary Hartzler, Bowling Green Country Club

The year was 1924 when two U.S. Army planes completed the first round-the-world flight in 175 days, the first Winter Olympic Games took place in Chamonix, France, the average annual income was $2,196, and a gallon of gas was 11 cents. 100 years ago, was also when the Bowling Green Country Club first opened on Fairview Ave. and the centennial celebration is just getting underway.

Kyle Hallock, BGSU Baseball

Clint visited with BGSU Baseball Head Coach Kyle Hallock this morning after another series sweep of the Akron Zips leaves the Falcons in historic territory, 9-0 to start the conference season. Listen here!
The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Players and Pitchers of the Week Monday morning (March 25). Of those named, Tyler Ross earned MAC Co-Player of the Week recognition, his second of the season. This is the third consecutive week BGSU has received the award with Ross being named on March 11 and Jack Krause being named on March 18. The Falcons have now had five awards this season with DJ Newman and Nic Good previously earning the MAC Pitcher of the Week award as well.

It's only 130 days until the 2024 Wood County Fair so we thought we would invite Jessica Nagel to join us this morning for an update on how the preparations are going. Kyle Hallock, BGSU Baseball

Coach Kyle Hallock embarked on his fourth season at the helm of the Falcons in 2024 and now that they've made their way in MAC play, the results have been historic!
Listen here to this morning's interview with the coach after the Bowling Green State University baseball team completed the weekend sweep over Ball State on Sunday (March 17) with a 15-8 victory over the Cardinals. The win moves Bowling Green to 6-0 in the MAC for the first time since 1995. It also places the Falcons atop the Mid-American Conference standings as the only team remaining undefeated in conference contests.
In the process of sweeping Miami 2 weeks ago the Falcons pushed 46 runs across then this past weekend they scored 54 runs in a sweep of Ball State. You'll hear Coach Hallock say that all in all, it’s our most complete three game weekend so far this year and while we are happy with the result, we aren't satisfied. We want more and expect to play even better.

Susan Montgomery is a local musician, artist, and author who has used her creativity to overcome chronic pain and anxiety. Susan talked about her book "The Strumming Seahorse: A Ukulele Adventure", during her visit and shared a song with us as well.
