Kenwood Elementary on the primary playground there was a rededication and Ribbon Cutting for a new piece of playground equipment in memory of Ryan Spencer, a Kenwood student who passed away 40 years ago today. Clint got comments from Ryan's dad, Superintendent Francis Scruci and his 2nd Grade teacher.

Relay For Life of Wood County

On this morning's story on the very successful 2022 Relay For Life of Wood County that took place Saturday at the Wood County Fairgrounds Clint shared comments from 19 year cancer survivor Jean Wingate and Cathy Owen who is the Administrative Director of the Maurer Family Cancer Care Center at the Wood County Hospital. You'll also hear his visit with Stan Korducki about improvements in Cancer treatments in the last several years.

Flags for Oak Grove and Memory Gardens

On Monday morning's news Clint shared the story of a local student who recently completed an Eagle Scout project to take a census of Oak Grove and Memory Gardens cemeteries to locate all the local veterans so we could decorate their grave markers with an American Flag this past weekend.

Kami Wildman, Wood County Health Department

Kami Wildman from the Wood County Health Department talked this week on the show about WIC, a nutrition education program for women, infants, and children, and how to find out if you qualify. They also talked about related health center services for women and children and a quick mention of in home food licensing called cottage food licensing.

BGSU Chief of Police Mike Campbell

Clint asked Bowling Green State University Chief of Police Mike Campbell to join Jeff and Erin from the Wood County Emergency Management Agency and talk about this past semester. They also talked about the new MARCS communication system being implemented across the county and more.

Jane Ridenour, Bowling Green American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45

Jane Ridenour from the Bowling Green American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45, in conjunction with Bowling Green Parks and Recreation, talked with Clint about holding a Poppy Drive-thru on Saturday, May 28th, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The community will be able to drive through the parking lot of the Veterans Building, drop a donation in a jar and receive a packaged poppy all without getting out of their vehicle. All donations received go directly to helping our veterans at the Sandusky Veterans Home and the Toledo VA Clinic. The poppy is a reminder of the past sacrifices and continuing needs of veterans and is a recognized symbol of sacrifice. The legion auxiliary is asking the public to come show support of those who unselfishly served the nation.

Bowling Green Area Community Bands

Clint talked with the long time Director of the Bowling Green Area Community Bands Mr. Thom Headley about their 1st performance before a live audience in over 2 years. Mr. Headley also shared his thoughts on the recent passing of Big Band BG Director Bill Lake and plans to honor him at a future concert.

Stan Korducki, Wood County Hospital President

President/CEO of the Wood County Hospital Stan Korducki talked this morning about how they honored their "amazing employees" during National Hospital Week. Clint also talked with Stan about the latest uptick in Covid-19 positive cases and the resulting resurgence of young people getting into health care and how the hospital has overcome the backlog of patients in need of elective surgeries and treatments who were waiting for the virus to abate.

Maria Simon, Wood County District Public Library and Jeff Orlowski, Wood Haven Health Care

Today Clint had the honor of having both an "Athena Goddess" and a published author in studio at the same time! Clint took the time to congratulate Maria Simon from the Wood County District Public Library on her recognition at last Saturday's Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Dinner and Awards program and he also got to talk with Jeff Orlowski about his recent children's book, "Avery Green and the Spirits of Dreams". Of course both Maria and Jeff shared their passion of inspiring children to read or as Walt Disney said "“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”

City Council ARPA Funds Forum

Bowling Green City Council invited the public to a forum on Thursday to share ideas for the nearly three million dollars remaining in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. The public forum took place in Council Chambers and Clint got comments from Bowling Green Council President Mark Hollenbaugh and a couple of the presenters.

Clean Plate Awards

The 2022 Clean Plate Award was presented to 37 licensed food facilities out of more than 800 in Wood County. These food facilities have been dedicated to upholding excellent sanitation and food safety knowledge within their operation. Clint interviewed award winners: Wood County Committee On Aging Food Service Manager Paul Dauch and Bob Frobose owner of Frobose Meat Locker since 1999 after receiving their awards. He also talked with the Wood County Health Department's Lana Glore about this annual recognition of excellent performance in food safety from the Wood County Health Department.

Zoning Board of Appeals

This past Wednesday was Rose Hess's last meeting as a member of the BG Zoning Board of Appeals. Clint got her thoughts after the meeting plus comments from Jimmy McCune of Wallick Communities, who requested a variance to allow the construction of a 96-unit multi-family residential apartment complex and Ben Galaviz of Culver's restaurant, who requested a sign variance for a store to be built on West Gypsy Lane Road in front of the Wal-Mart property, both variances were granted.

Bowling Green native Grant Flick and long time collaborator Jacob Warren are performing a house concert on Wednesday May 25th at 7 p.m.  Bob Midden and Clint visited with the remarkable musician in studio this morning. You'll also hear details about how you can tickets to this special, intimate event on May 25th.

Wood County Park District Meeting

At last nights Wood County Park District Commissioners meeting the Board approved spending $83,714 on Liability, Vehicle and Property Insurance for another year. Director Chris Smalley told Clint that's a savings of over $3,000 from last year and an increase in coverage of one million dollars. You'll also hear a recap of the Plant Sale at the Wood County Fairgrounds last weekend and meet the newest Park District Police officer Brent Foos.

“Food & Wine” magazine has honored Flatlands Cafe as the best coffee roaster in Ohio. Clint visited with owner/operator Ben Vollmar in studio Thursday to congratulate him and find out more about this unique shop in Downtown Bowling Green.

Shannon Fisher with the Wood County Department of Job and Family Services told Clint on the show this morning that the "Fitted for Success" program is now taking applications for K-12 students in the 2022-23 school year. Shannon also updated Clint on Emergency Financial Assistance that is also still available for folks who qualify in Wood County.

Amazing Race BG

After a 2 year hiatus the ACT BG Amazing Race is back on May 13th will all this years proceeds benefitting the NWO Apraxia support group. Clint had a visit with Amanda Koba and Ryan Davis about this important and FUN Fundraising event.

Bowling Green’s pair of Peregrine Falcons have once again set up shop in the clock tower of the Wood County Courthouse to expand their family. Sara Zaleski, Wildlife Research Technician for ODNR Division of Wildlife District Two, shared the history of the pair of nesting falcons plus educated Clint on the return of the birds from the endangered list.

Lynn Eicher, Glass City Federal Credit Union and Kassie Cooper, Glass City Marketing Coordinator

Lynn Eicher from Glass City Federal Credit Union and Kassie Cooper, Glass City Marketing Coordinator joined Clint in studio this week to talk about the upcoming 75th Anniversary of Glass City FCU in Northwest Ohio. Clint's Monday morning visit with Wood County Hospital President Stan Korducki covered a range of topics from the My Physician Patient Portal and the My Health Record Patient Portal which gives patients instant access to all their records and physician appointments, to a recap of the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce annual Blood Analysis Program and the ongoing walk in Covid-19 vaccination clinics.

Judity Pryor, First Vice President and Vice Chair, Export-Import Bank

Judith D. Pryor, 1985 alumna and recently appointed vice president and vice chair of the board of directors at the Export-Import Bank (EXIM) of the United States, was the keynote specker at Saturday’s afternoon and evening commencement ceremonies at Bowling Green State University. Pryor has served under Presidents Biden, Trump and Obama. Clint spoke with Ms. Pryor after the Saturday afternoon ceremony where they reviewed her comments including her statement that even at the pinnacle of her career, working at the White House, she often thought about her time at BGSU.

Ryan Myers, Bowling Green City Schools Board of Education

Bowling Green City Schools may be headed for a ballot initiative for a new high school in November. That was the suggestion at this week's school board meeting made by the Special Facilities Advisory Committee so Clint asked Board and Committee member Ryan Myers to join me on the show to talk about what's next.

Tim Brown, Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments President

Clint reached out to Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments President Tim Brown on Friday's show to recap the General Assembly meeting from this past week. Tim and Clint talked about the election of BG Mayor Mike Aspacher as Chair and Perrysburg Mayor Tom Mackin as Vice Chair, but also about 2022 infrastructure projects, passenger rail initiatives, autonomous vehicles and lots more.

Computer Aided Dispatch System for Wood County

Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn made an appeal to the Wood County Commissioners Thursday for just over 3.4 million dollars in American Rescue Plan funds to support an updated emergency dispatch system that could benefit over 50 agencies they dispatch across the county. Clint got comments from the Sheriff, Lake and Northwood Fire Departments, the Perrysburg Police Department and the County Commissioners about the benefits of this new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System that would replace the one in service here since 1999.

The Children's Place of the Wood County District Public Library will kick off Children's Book Week with their annual collaboration with La Conexión, celebrating Día (Children's Day/Book Day) at the library on Saturday, April 30 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the Bowling Green Library Atrium. Michele Raine from the Wood County District Public Library previewed this weekend's big event plus shared some details on special events coming up in May for "Local History Month"

The President of City of Bowling Green Council Mark Hollenbaugh sat in for Mayor Mike Aspacher this week on the show and discussed a range from use of ARPA funds, the financial outlook for the city so far in 2022 and Clint also even talked local politics with the government teacher.

$100,000 per year for the next 3 years has been committed by City of Bowling Green to go toward housing grants for homeowner repairs as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Community Development Administrator Martha Woelke and Housing Specialist Matt Snow talked with Clint on Tuesday's show about this "once in a lifetime" opportunity to improve the housing stock in our city.
