Chief Bill Moorman, BG Fire Division

Chief Bill Moorman and the Bowling Green Fire Division made a special delivery early this morning to the 13ABC Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive campaign at the Woodland Mall.

The Bowling Green Fire Division, along with City of Bowling Green Mayor Aspacher and employees, partnered with 13 Action News and the Salvation Army to collect toys to be distributed to children during the holiday season.

The Wood County Department of Job and Family Services Protective Services Unit is holding the annual Santa Shop again this month.

Bowling Green City Schools' Addie Naus is a senior and BG FFA President. Last year, Addie was challenged by her Bowling Green FFA teacher Stephanie Conway to come up with a project she could be passionate about so the BGCS "Making A Difference, One Toy at A Time Toy Drive" was born.

Sophia Jarrell and Hayley Havener from the Black Swamp Fine Arts School LLC stopped by the studio this morning to give Clint all the details on this year's production of "Mina & the Nutcracker" performed on December 21st at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts in Findlay.

WCH embraced the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry with the Battle of the Border Food Drive, a friendly competition to support the Brown Bag Food Pantry. Donation bins for Ohio State, Michigan and “Other Team” encouraged staff, patients and visitors to join the fight against food insecurity.
On November 25, WCH President Stan Korducki (an Ohio State fan) and VP Joe W. (a loyal Michigan supporter) announced 🏆 𝗢𝗵𝗶𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿, narrowly beating out Michigan. The drive made a significant impact, with hundreds of donations helping Wood County families this holiday season.

Kim Roessner & Kathy Mull, Women's Club of Bowling Green

Paul Perry & Laura Westgate, Wood County Fair Board

We may be headed into the winter months, but the folks at the Wood County Fair Board are already making decisions about the 2025 Wood County Fair.
Paul Perry, Senior Fair Board President and Laura Westgate, Fair Manager, gave Clint details about the entertainment being contracted for next summer. Listen here as he got details about the elimination of the country concert and the return of several popular events next year.
Laura also told us about several events that are being scheduled for the Wood County Fairgrounds this winter and spring, including The Fields to Firearms Fundraiser. The event, featuring a guns and purses raffle, will be held on Jan. 25 in the Pratt Pavilion at the fairgrounds. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner by Deet’s BBQ at 6 p.m. and the raffle at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $50 per person (must be 21 or older), which covers the meal and the chance to win one of five featured guns and purses. They hope to sell 350 tickets for the event.

Madison Cowan & Hannah Heinze, BG Bobcat Volleyball

Madison Cowan was recently named the Division III District 7 Player of the Year after leading the Bowling Green volleyball team to its best season in eight years. In addition to being named the district’s top player, Cowan earned First Team All-NLL and First Team All-District recognition. She finished her career with 1,170 kills, 1,221 digs and 121 aces while eclipsing Ashley Dunn’s school record for career terminations of 1,139 established from 2006-09.
Captain and senior libero Hannah Heinze was also named First Team All-NLL in the Cardinal Division this year, finishing not far behind Abby Ray’s career digs record of 1,356, Heinze came within 30 of matching Ray’s total.

Hannah Feffer, Director of Community Learning Centers STARS, and Instructor Justin Newcomb visited Clint this morning to talk about some financial challenges being faced by this heavily utilized program here in Wood County. Listen to their visit here!

It's almost time for this year's Bowling Green Community Holiday Parade, and Clint talked with one of this year's commentators, Meteorologist Ryan Wichman from WTOL 11. Beth Peery, Wood County Health Department, & Bryanna Evan, VAPE Coalition

Wood County Health Department's Beth Perry substituted for Ben Robison this week and brought with her one of this year’s VAPE Coalition members. This is a group of BGSU students who work with the health department to prevent vaping among their peers.

Lane Montz, President of the Better Business Bureau and Better Business Bureau Ethics Foundation, Inc., told us on Wednesday's show that his office receives consumer calls regularly, asking if a check they’ve received in the mail is valid. Many times, the answer is “No” … but here’s a time where we can say “Yes”!

Lane also described a new initiative starting in 2025 with Bowling Green State University to produce a suite of videos titled "In the pursuit of Ethics" that will be made available to high schools across the state and ultimately the nation. The first vignette will be focused on the "new social media that purports to be a news outlet but lacks the checks and balances for ethical journalism that traditional journalism has had." Very exciting partnership between the BBB and BGSU School of Media and Communication!

Stephanie has been performing in JDS’s Nutcracker since the very first staging, which was a mere 17 years ago, first appearing as a Woodland Snow Angel. Stephanie is also a teacher at JDS.
Adelaide Brown, Company Dance Captain: Senior at Eastwood High School also taking classes at BGSU. Sugar Plum Fairy and Flower Queen. Performing in her 8th Nutcracker with JDS, starting out as a Little Jazz Mouse & Jingle Bell.
Nina Snyder, “Claire” (Saturday 7p & Sunday 2p): 8th grader at Bowling Green Middle School, dancing at JDS for 12 years, this is her second time portraying the role of Claire as well as numerous other roles.
Julie's Dance Studio, Ltd. has been staging this special production for 18 years and Clint guarantees it will fill you with holiday cheer again in 2024!

Tracy Hovest, BG City Schools Board

It's official. At this morning's meeting of the Wood County Board of Elections Board, the final election results were certified with the addition of all qualified provisional ballots. The .75% income tax to support operations of Bowling Green City Schools went down to defeat with 7,282 votes against and 7,174 votes for the levy.
Clint will have his interview with co-director of the Board of Elections, Terry Burton, on Thursday's local news. Burton told us the 108-vote margin of defeat will not trigger an automatic recount. He also asked Terry about the next opportunity for putting the issue back on the ballot in 2025 - here, you'll hear Clint's interview with BG School Board President Tracy Hovest, who indicated the hoped-for revenue was a "need not a want" so they would be discussing next steps if the issue was defeated.

Coach Dennis Williams, BGSU Hockey, & Coach Connor Rogowski, BG Bobcat Hockey

Clint had two Head Hockey coaches back to back on Tuesday's show when BGSU Hockey Dennis Williams updated him on last weeks series at St. Thomas, and Bowling Green Bobcat Hockey Coach Connor Rogowski followed that with a preview of this weekend's Jamie Ruffner Memorial tournament at Slater Family Ice Arena for his 2-0 Bobcats!

Jenny Morlock from The Ohio State University Extension - Wood County 4-H introduced us this morning to 4-H Volunteer Laura Short. Laura is another recent recipient of the Honorary Wood County 4-H Member Award, the highest award given to 4-H Volunteers.

It's time for the most important step in the 4-step process for a beautiful lawn next year according to John Krukemyer at the Mid-Wood Inc. - Bowling Green Store.
Listen here to all the details John shared with Clint - Step 4 should be applied when air temperatures have cooled to slow down above ground growth, but the soil temperatures are still warm enough to promote root growth. The fertilizer will be stored into the roots, building a stronger root system, which will mean a thicker, greener, and healthier lawn next spring.

Stan Korducki, Wood County Hospital

Wood County Hospital President Stan Korducki recapped a special evening as employees gathered at Stone Ridge Golf Club on November 13 for the annual Service Awards ceremony to honor the dedication and hard work of our outstanding employees.
Listen to Clint's visit here, as Stan told him during his weekly visit that the celebration recognized staff members who reached significant milestones - 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35 and 40 years of service. Guests enjoyed dinner and live music from CBR.

Tony Mazzarella, BGSU Rugby

After overcoming a 21-point deficit, at approximately 2:30pm on November 16, 2024, junior prop Vinnie Pfahl, son of BGSU rugby alum Ben Pfahl, with zero time on the referee's watch, took the "turtle" ball over the goal line to give BGSU a thrilling 34-33 victory over Louisville to win the MAC championship and put the Falcons in the national finals for seventeenth straight year.

Spirit of Wood County Awards Honorees

The Spirit of Wood County Awards are presented to current and former citizens of Wood County in recognition of outstanding service to their communities and Wood County. The County Commissioners have been honoring outstanding citizens since 1987.

Rick Ruffner from Webster Township was selected for the Lyle R. Fletcher Good Citizenship Award.

Terese told us the wonderful story of how Col. Gadson almost fell into her lap, literally, and the 16-year journey of writing the story of a wonderful life of inspiration and service.
What starts as a minute-by-minute account of a disaster in a war zone quickly turns into an uplifting story of survival and triumph in Finding Waypoints: A Warrior’s Journey Towards Peace and Purpose by Col. Greg Gadson and Terese Schlachter. Their book – the result of their extraordinary relationship – is a hybrid of biography and autobiography. It tells the story of a man who survived the worst and has used his experience to enrich the lives of others both in and out of the military.

Kyle Clark, Wood County Educational Service Center

Kyle talked not only about prevention efforts in district schools for our area youth, but also about the popular "Positive Behavorial and Intervention Supports (PBIS) program instituted in all district schools in Wood County. PBIS is a framework that uses evidence-based practices to create a positive school culture and learning environment for students and staff. PBIS recognizes that students can only meet behavioral expectations if they know what the expectations are. The philosophy of PBIS is that by rewarding students for positive behavior through positive praise and rewards, students will begin to build intrinsic motivation to behave in a positive way which will help create a positive learning environment in all areas of the school.

Kami Wildman, Wood County Health Department

During this morning's call in, Kami Wildman from the Wood County Health Department shared with Clint where to find the flu shot clinics on the website, food safety for Thanksgiving, and a reminder about open enrollment for Marketplace. The Health Department is also going to have the mobile unit at the turkey drop at the Wood County Museum on Friday morning. Listen here!

Dr. Ted Hasleman, BG City Schools

Randy Gardner, Betty Montgomery, and Rodney Rogers, BGSU Day of Dialogue

On the heels of a very contentious elections season, Bowling Green State University hosted its annual "Day of Dialogue" with this year's topic being Engaging in Democracy.
Here, you'll hear short interviews with panelists The Hon. Randy Gardner, former State Senator and Representative and former chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, the The Hon. Betty Montgomery, former Ohio Attorney General, and Dr. Rodney K. Rogers, BGSU President.
The goal of the event was to promote nonpartisan, democratic engagement in state and local government, and featured engaging discussions with elected officials, policymakers, and BGSU learning community members. The free, public event hoped to empower attendees to listen, learn, and work toward changing the culture of democratic engagement in the United States.

This Sunday at 3 the "Sounds of the Stadium" will fill the air at the Stroh Center as the 425 members of the BGSU Falcon Marching Band, led by the Director of Marching and Athletic Bands Professor Jon Waters, put on their annual show.
