Horizon Youth Theatre

Join Horizon Youth Theatre this fall for Little Women: The Musical, based on the beloved novel by Louisa May Alcott and directed by Cassie Greenlee. It will be performed October 6 – 9, 2022, at the Oak Street Theater in Bowling Green. Clint had a visit this morning with Director Cassie Greenlee and 3 members of the cast, Rose Walters, Reagan Otley, and Gavin Miller.

Ohio Export Internship Program

Clint got comments about a new program from Dr. Rodney K. Rogers, BGSU President, Ohio Chancellor of Higher Education Randy Gardner, BGSU Schmidthorst College of Business Dean Jennifer Percival and others.
Bowling Green State University and the Ohio Department of Development announced a partnership today, Sept. 30, to provide export training to students who can then use their knowledge to help Northwest Ohio businesses strengthen their export programs.
The University’s Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business will begin offering an export-focused class in the spring semester 2023, and students in the class will be eligible for export-related internships at companies across the state beginning in May 2023.
BGSU is one of two universities being added to the Ohio Export Internship Program this year. The other is Ohio University, and both universities join four others that already are part of the program: Ohio State University, Cleveland State University, the University of Dayton, and Youngstown State University.
The Ohio Export Internship Program is administered by the Ohio Department of Development’s Office of Export Assistance and International Engagement.
“We’re pleased that we are able to extend the reach of this internship program,” Development Director Lydia Mihalik said. “Ohio is now the ninth largest exporting state in the nation, and our goal is to help companies enter export markets so Ohio-made products get in the hands of more international customers.”

Deborah Pressley, The American Red Cross

Clint had the opportunity to see the Western Lake Erie Chapter of The American Red Cross in action this past week supporting folks displaced after the apartment fire on N. Grove Street. He had to reach out to Deborah Pressley, Disaster Program Manager, to find out more about this dedicated group of volunteers.

Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn

According to Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn the renovations to the jail should be moving forward as early as next week. Clint asked the Sheriff about a resolution passed by the county commissioners Thursday that sets a maximum price for the renovation/expansion at $27,991,095 which includes furniture, fixtures, HVAC upgrades and architectural fees.

Jim Witter, Wood County Park District

Jim Witter from the Wood County Park District called the show this morning to highlight some of the great family fun events at Saturday's Heritage Farm Fest. The event will include live music, wagon rides, history talks, farming demonstrations, cider pressing, and other activities on Saturday at a historic farm near Bowling Green. The Wood County Park District organized festival takes place at the Carter Historic Farm, a working farm that represents life in the 1930s and 1940s. The event is free but donations are requested. The festival runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at 18331 Carter Rd., northeast of Bowling Green.

Danijela Tomic, BGSU Volleyball Head Coach

Head coach of Bowling Green State University Volleyball Danijela Tomic previewed Friday and Saturday night's games at the Stroh Center against Ohio University.

Donnie Winchell, V.I.N.O. Wine Festival

Clint asked Donnie Winchell, the Executive Director of Ohio Wines to call the show this week to talk about the upcoming Vino Wine Festival. Clint learned about the history of winemaking in Northwest Ohio and about the big event taking place October 8 at the Wood County Fairgrounds, Bowling Green, Ohio from 1-7 p.m. A celebration of wine and food in Northwest Ohio celebrating fine wine, great food, and offering shopping, music, and fun. The festival expects more than 1000 attendees for this first time during the fall ‘Crush’ season and the beautiful weather in our great state during this time of year.
Up to twenty wineries are expected to be pouring reds, whites, blushes, fruit, and dessert wines. They will be offering European-style viniferas, Ohio-grown natives, and French-American hybrid wines to suit every palate.

Dick Eppstein, Better Business Bureau

Friday was Dick Eppstein's last day on the job after a half a century of service at the Better Business Bureau. Dick has been a regular guest of Clint's every month for many years as well so he asked the President of the Better Business Bureau of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan to do a final farewell call to the show Thursday so he could thank him for his many years of service.

Perrysburg High School Yellow Jacket Football Coach Dirk Conner joined Clint on Thursday's The Morning Show BG to share his thoughts on Friday's showdown with the Anthony Wayne Generals.

Lt Jim Ritterbach, Bowling Green Fire Division

The Bowling Green Fire Division has announced the return of its annual open house on Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Pearl Street Fire Station. This is a family-friendly event to allow residents to explore the fire station, meet firefighters and learn more about how to keep their families safe at home and away. Lt. Jim Ritterbach called the show to give Clint all the details.

Lots of big High School Football games this Friday including the showdown between the Anthony Wayne Generals and the Perrysburg High School Yellow Jacket Football for 1st place in the NLL. General Head Coach Andy Brungard previewed the game for Clint this morning.

Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Director Mary Hinkelman joined Clint Tuesday morning to preview the Holiday Parade! Construction on East Wooster Street and potential increasing cost for the new administration building being constructed in City of Bowling Green were 2 of the topics discussed with Mayor Mike Aspacher when he called into the show Tuesday morning. Clint also heard the mayor's opinion on the recent distribution of 2 million dollars in ARPA funding by council and his upcoming audience with Governor Mike DeWine to discuss the suspension of the Route 23 corridor study.

President Rodney Rogers and Provost Joe Whitehead, BGSU

The Bowling Green State University Board of Trustees on Friday approved a landmark change to the University’s College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering (CTAAE) that will both enhance education opportunities for current and future BGSU students and respond directly to workforce needs in Ohio and beyond. Clint got comments from Dr. Rodney K. Rogers, BGSU President and Provost Dr. Joe Whitehead about this exciting academic initiative. The board passed a reconfiguration of the college that will create the School of Engineering and the School of Aviation. The reconfigured CTAAE will be composed of the new School of Engineering, School of Aviation and the existing School of the Built Environment.

Bowling Green Economic Development Director Kati Thompson expressed both to Clint today when he visited with her to talk about the $75,000 granted from the City ARPA funds for an "Innovation & Entrepreneurship Accelerator Feasibility Analysis". What is it and how will this help the BG Economy?

Stan Korducki, Wood County Hospital President

More accolades for the Wood County Hospital being voted as one of America's Best in State Employers by Forbes Magazine. CEO Stan Korducki shared the news with Clint this morning. The also talked about when vaccines will be available for flu season, Dr. Melissa Houser joining the Wood County Medical Associates Pediatric Care and those wild turkey sightings that continue near the Hospital!

Every month on the show Clint gets to meet another Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper from the Bowling Green Post. This morning Sgt. Shawn Fosgate shared stories with him about his 22 year career, gave info on this month's focus on teen driving, talked about a career as a OSHP Trooper and told us the excuse he hears most when he has to stop someone for speeding!

For over a decade the Wood County Committee On Aging has been working toward offering Adult Day Care Services. With the construction of the new building, the space is now available and this week Salli Bollin, Executive Director of MemoryLane Care Services who will be administering the program talked with the WCCOA Governing Board. Clint talked afterwards with Director Denise Niese about this exciting new service coming to Wood County.

Clint had to reach out to Dr. Barbara Henry, assistant vice president of BGSU Nontraditional and Military Student Services at Bowling Green State University to congratulate her on climbing to No. 2 in national rankings as a top university for veterans and active military students. The University is up three spots in the national rankings, according to the largest and most comprehensive ranking of schools for military service members and veterans.

Middleton Township Fire Department Safety Day

On Saturday, September 17 Middleton Township Fire Department is hosting a Community Safety Day, and you are invited! Clint visited with Lori and a couple of the Fire Chiefs that have organized this years event. They were also joined by Jeff Klein, Director of the Wood County Emergency Management Agency. Family-Friendly Activities including a bounce house, kid-friendly safety demonstrations, snow plow painting, and more!
We will also be hosting representatives from many area organizations such as American Red Cross, Life Connection, Suburban Natural Gas, Wood County EMA, and many more!

The Wood County Hospital is adding the Rivercrest OB/GYN physician group to its Women’s Health Service line Starting October 1, 2022. President/CEO Stan Korducki gave Clint the details of this expanded service when he called in this week.

Lt. Adam Skaff, Bowling Green Police Division

A 27 year old Portage man was charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Trespass and Receiving Stolen Property after Bowling Green Police Division officers were called to an address on Clough St. Sunday evening on the report of a male trying to get into vehicles. Lt. Adam Skaff gives Clint some of the details of the incident. He'll have more on this story on Thursday morning's local news.

Downtown Forward

The City of Bowling Green, the Center for Regional Development (CRD), and Bowling Green State University (BGSU) held a press conference Tuesday to announce Downtown Forward, a collaborative initiative to enhance placemaking in downtown Bowling Green. The Downtown Forward partnership was formed after the City of Bowling Green was selected to participate in the Reimagining Rural Regions (R3) program with CRD. Clint got comments from BG Mayor Aspacher, Ohio's Sr. Director for the Center for Regional Development Dr. Russell Mills, BGSU Provost Dr. Joe Whitehead and others.
The R3 program, launched in 2021, is an economic and workforce development-centered placemaking initiative that helps communities identify, enhance and build community assets to aid in talent attraction and retention. The program provides the capacity to communities to conduct public engagement to develop placemaking plans. Additionally, BGSU graduate and undergraduate students work with each community to help plan and implement projects to enhance and build more livable spaces.
