Wood County District Library Board of Trustees Meeting Recap
At Tuesday's Wood County District Public Library Board of Trustees meeting a "raise pool" of just over $53,000 was approved for the staff and leadership. The board also approved a balanced budget and said thank you and goodbye to trustee Becky Baer after nearly a decade of service. Hal Brown, Volunteer of the Year, and Jim Whitter, Wood County Park District

Hal was recently awarded the National Association of Interpretation’s Outstanding Interpretive Volunteer of the Year award after being nominated by Jim for his years of volunteer service here in Wood County.
Hal has been described as the kind of unsung hero that does a lot for the community at large but we don’t always hear about. Jim nominated him for the Volunteer award for the Great Lakes region and then it went to National. Jim is the lead Naturalist at our Wood County Park District.
NAI is the National Association of Interpreters. The are a nonprofit professional organization with 6500 members. Hal has his CIG designation which is a Certified Interpretive Guide. Members work at Zoos, Parks of all sizes etc…. For some it is a career and others for a Volunteer capacity offering support.

Wood County Health Department Open House Recap
The Wood County Health Department held an open house Monday to invite the public to see the recently completed Health Center renovations. A $517,000 Health Resources and Services Administration grant paid for most of the $607,000 renovation to the 3,000-square-foot center.

Just got word that the BGSU Football team is going to be on hand tonight in Kalamazoo to cheer on the Bowling Green State University Volleyball team in the MAC Championship game!

The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will continue their 2023 season in the MAC Tournament with the Western Michigan Broncos in the MAC Championship Monday night (Nov. 20). The Falcons and Broncos are scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start at University Arena in Read Fieldhouse. The game will broadcasted on ESPN+ with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
The Falcons are in the midst of a seven-match win streak, their longest of the season, and have won 12 of their last 13 contests. Of those 12 wins, nine have come via 3-0 sweep for the Orange and Brown. In the championship, the Falcons will face the top seed in the conference with Western Michigan. This is the first time BGSU and WMU have met in the MAC Tournament since facing in the 2020-21 MAC Championship.

The Wood County Board of Elections certified the results of the November 7th Election including all provisional ballots this morning. There will be a mandatory recount due the closeness of the Bowling Green City Schools Board race but BOE Co-director Terry Burton told Clint today he doesn't expect any changes to today results.
The candidates that finished in the top 3 are Tracy Hovest, Peggy Thompson and Howard "Ardy" Gonyer.

The Northwestern Water & Sewer District (“District”) is finalizing the design of an 11-million-dollar sanitary sewer and waterline project for the Dunbridge area that will connect to over 100 homes, apartments and businesses. The project will also address the Ohio EPA Findings and Orders to construct sanitary sewers in Dunbridge.
The District held a public meeting for the residents and affected property owners Tuesday at the District office, listen as Clint asked Theresa Pollick and Garret Chamberlain to call the show this morning to recap the meeting including the scope of the project, the timetable and any potential costs to area homeowners.

Paul Dobson, Wood County Prosecuting Attorney
Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson called into the 7 o'clock local news this morning to share details on yesterday's announcement that Jimmy David Cole (age 30) of Bowling Green, OH had pled guilty to three counts of Murder and two counts of Felonious Assault in the stabbing death of Alicia Rosa and her unborn child. A trial was scheduled to begin today in that case and the plea was taken even as potential jurors were arriving, so we started our discussion about the last-minute decision by the defense in the case.
The charges stem from the March 30, 2023 incident in Bowling Green, where Miss Rosa died as a result of receiving four stab wounds. According to a statement of facts presented by Assistant Prosecutor Brian Boos, her body was found in her apartment by her parents. She had been in a relationship with Cole and it is believed that the child she was carrying was Cole's. According to the statement, Cole told the police that he went to Miss Rosa's apartment in the early morning hours of the 30th, where he and Miss Rosa argued before he stabbed her one time in the kitchen. According to the statement, Cole said he then followed Miss Rosa into the living room before stabbing her again. Miss Rosa died minutes later, and her child died as a result of the wounds Miss Rosa sustained.

Ryan Wichman, Wood County Plays
Wood County Plays has announced a partnership with the city of Fostoria to build the city’s first inclusive playground at City Park. The over 14,000 square foot playground will feature state of the art equipment and innovative designs. A wheelchair accessible merry-go-round, sensory tunnel, adaptive zip line, and poured rubber surfacing highlighting the 100% accessible play space. Zone specific equipment for younger toddlers and older kids will keep different age groups engaged for family visits.
Listen as Ryan Wichman, president of Wood County Plays, talked with Clint this weekend about the why, where and when of this project.
The campaign to fund the playground will combine grant funding and community donations to fulfill the projected one-million-dollar budget. The city of Fostoria has already committed $50,000 dollars toward the project. The playground will be located at the site of the former community pool and adjacent to a still-to-be built splash pad. Construction for the playground is expected to begin early in 2025 with completion during the summer. A fundraiser, Night of Play, will be held in January for members of the public to come together to support this unique community project.

Todd Sayler, Pantry Manager for the Bowling Green Christian Food Pantry, and volunteer Treasurer Faith Olsen, stopped in the studio this morning to update Clint on the growing need in our community as evidenced by the recent expansion and the diminishing donations that are coming in.
Listen to hear about the over 150 food baskets that are being prepared for area families too. The mission of the BG Christian Food Pantry is to provide food for people in Wood County who have short-term emergency food needs.

Julie's Dance Studio, Ltd.is presenting the Nutcraker Ballet All Jazzed Up for the 16th season this month. Show dates are November 17, 18, 19 at Owens College, Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
Listen to Clint's visit this morning with Julie Setzer and Hailey Gottschalk, a Senior at BGHS, dancing numerous roles in this year's production but her featured role of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Elena Hemming, also a Senior at BGHS, is also dancing numerous roles but her featured role is the Snow Queen. Both girls have been involved in the production for 13-15 years!

Dr. Jo Beth Gonzales and Dhia Sanogo, BGHS Drama Club
The Bowling Green High School Drama Club's upcoming fall play, "From One World to Another," is opening Thursday night and runs thru Sunday at the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center.
Listen to Clint's conversation this morning with Dr. Jo Beth Gonzales and Dhia Sanogo, our guest teacher of English from Burkina Faso, a small land-locked country in West Africa bordered by The Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Mali, Niger and Benin who traveled here to help with this special project. Also joining us was Rory Mott a student scriptwriter and actor in the play and Allie Parish, a student scriptwriter and technical crew member of the company.
This project is titled "Cultural Exchange Through High School Theatre" and is funded by grants from the BG Community Foundation and the U.S. Global Ties program, a division of the U.S. Department of State's Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund. Students have been interacting with Burkinabé English teacher Dhia SANOGO throughout the play-writing process. Dhia will travel to Bowling Green in late October to participate in post-performance talk-backs, visit with BGHS students, speak for classes at BGSU, and at a special program sponsored by the Wood County District Public Library.

Since moving here a year ago to help with the opening of The Willows on Dunbridge Road, Gabby has joined ACT BG whose mission is to focus on connecting active professionals to each other and to the community through social, civic, charitable, and professional development events. The next event in support of the "Christmas Elves" program is coming up at Arlyn's Good Beer!

Tuesday was a busy day for Biggby Coffee BG Ohio owner Gary Dible. It all started with a live remote of The Morning Show BG both inside and outside of the Wood County Hospital, and culminated with a ribbon cutting of his new store at the hospital thanks to the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce.
