At Thursday’s regular meeting of the Wood County Commissioners, Wood County Fair President Paul Perry and Fair Manager Laura Westgate gave an update on the many improvements that have taken place at the Fairgrounds in preparation for the 153rd Wood County Fair which officially starts Sunday. Clint heard praise from Craig LaHote and Ted Bowlus for the Fair Board and got comments from both on the recent announcement that incumbent Doris Herringshaw was removing herself from the November ballot because of health concerns. Doris Herringshaw, Wood County Commissioner has served in that position for 14 years and served Wood County for many years before that as well.

Clint speaks with Ann Cavera and Michelle Raine about the local author program at Wood County District Public Library. Ann Cavera is the featured author at the next local author program on August 8th at 2 p.m.

Danielle Brogley from the Wood County Committee On Aging joined Clint and Ann to talk about one of Ann’s other passions, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.

Clint spends time learning Ann’s story of becoming a published author later in life, we heard of the inspiration for her 2 award winning works. “Ride a Summer Wind”: the story of a 13-year-old granddaughter, and her grandfather. The story is about courage in the face of illness and poverty and the power of unconditional love. The second is “In Seeds of Darkness”, thirteen-year-old Oliver Twine and his younger sister are orphans in a pandemic. 75% of author royalties from Seeds of Darkness will be donated to World Central Kitchen World Central Kitchen has a 5-star, 100% rating from Charity Navigator! Shelby Smith discusses foster services with Clint and Ann, who herself has been a foster parent.

The Bowling Green Bobcat Football team is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-win 2025 campaign under the direction of 3rd year Head Coach Shaun Kiss.
It’s a tall task this year to start the season as the Bobcat host state power Perrysburg on August 21st but coach Kiss told Clint on Monday’s show that he expects some real improvement in this year’s squad.

Wood County Auditor Matt Oestreich visited the studio today to break down the announcement from his office on Thursday that that the 2026 Triennial Update values have received state approval and are available on the Auditor website for open inspection. Countywide, residential values increased by an average of 19%.
Auditor Oestreich emphasizes two important factors regarding this value adjustment:
First, this increase in property values reflects the local real estate market which continued to increase in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Second, recent property tax reforms have significantly changed the relationship between property value and property taxes.
Matt said “Property owners who have questions or would like assistance reviewing their property value may call the Auditor’s office at 419-354-9173 or toll free 1-866-860-4140 ext. 9173. They may also visit the office in person on the second floor of the county office building on weekdays between the hours of 8:30 to 4:30.

Lots of momentum at Bowling Green State University and at BGSU Athletics as well as we prepare for the fall semester and fall sports season.
In a recent announcement overall, BGSU Athletics raised $5,258,234, fueled by the generosity of 2,852 unique donors, during Fiscal Year 2026. Clint asked the Sr. Associate AD for Development, Nathan Anderson, to join him Friday morning to talk about that historic level of giving and some of the recently announced enhancements to several sports facilities on campus.

The 2026 Wood County Fair opens Sunday, August 2nd, with “Post Everlasting” as the 1st event in the grandstands again this year. Clint talked this week with the Executive Director of the Wood County Veterans Service Office, Zach Migura, and Fair Board President Paul Perry about this solemn yet inspiring ceremony at 5:30 PM at the Wood County Fairgrounds.
Join your community to honor and remember our local fallen veterans who have passed away this year. This traditional military tribute, organized by dedicated veteran organizations, features a poignant roll call, symbolic flag folding, a respectful rifle salute, and the playing of Taps.

Clint was joined this morning by City of Bowling Green, Ohio Mayor Emeritus Dick Edwards who sat in on the visit with Jon Waters, the Director of the Falcon Marching Band & Athletic Bands!
While the BGSU Falcon Marching Band is now one of the largest bands in the country, with over 450 members, Jon told Dick and Clint that they will be growing again this year just in time for Marching Band Season.
Topics covered include the long successful history of the BGSU Marching Band, the growth and National recognition they have received since Jon’s arrival plus some highlight events on the horizon including the Declaration 250 event at Put-In-Bay on Aug. 2nd and the band’s invitation to perform in the 2027 Rose Parade on January 1st.

Clint got to feature an outstanding member of the FFA Club at Otsego, Claire Lampe, who is working hard to get ready for this years’ Wood County Fair.
Claire is a Junior at Otsego High School, a Varsity Basketball player, Track & Field athlete, a Member of the Otsego Chorale Choir, Vice President, 2026-2027 Otsego FFA Chapter and a Member of Youth Leadership Toledo.
Clint’s visit with Clare focused quite a bit on the importance of the livestock sales each year which is the only chance these outstanding young people have of recouping their investments in their animals and, hopefully, bringing them a little extra for next year’s fair projects or for other investments like their education.

Downtown Bowling Green SID and the Bowling Green Community Foundation are proud to announce the completion of the America 250 Mural on the east wall of 123 E. Court Street in Downtown Bowling Green. Clint talked with Hallie Williams, Executive Director of the Downtown Bowling Green SID on Wednesday’s show.
Made possible through funding from the Bowling Green Community Foundation’s Arts & Culture Grant Program with support from the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, the large-scale mural honors the 250th anniversary of the United States while creating a bold new landmark in downtown. Designed and painted by Ohio mural artist Dean Davis, the nearly 2,000-square-foot mural features a sweeping interpretation of the American flag anchored by a striking “America 250” centerpiece. The project also reflects Downtown Bowling Green’s commitment to investing in placemaking projects that strengthen community identity, enhance public spaces, and encourage exploration throughout downtown.

With the Firefly Nights Festival happening this Friday night in Downtown Bowling Green, the founder and executive director Julie Russian of Jack and Irene’s WISH House, joined Clint to talk about the reason she wanted to purchase the beautiful home at 325 N.
